Army units will enter a new operational model that aligns them with different parts of the world and prepares them to receive new equipment Oct. 1, the start of fiscal 2022, the service said last week.
The Regionally Aligned Readiness and Modernization Model was tested at the end of February during a three-star general officer rehearsal, said Army spokesman Jason Waggoner. The officers conducted a table-top exercise for a rehearsal of concept drill at the Center for Army Analysis on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. ....

A new force generation model was introduced by Army leadership in fall 2020.
The intention is to better balance demands across the world with the transformational changes the service needs to prepare for a future fight against a peer adversary, Lt. Gen. Charles A. Flynn, the deputy chief of staff for Army operations, plans and training, has said.
Dubbed the “Regionally Aligned Readiness and Modernization Model,” the plan is to allocate Army units to different theaters in roughly one year, giving them expertise in the parts of the world to which they would deploy during an actual conflict and allowing them to stockpile the right equipment for those clashes. ....

U.S. Army Alaska has struggled to be the service’s proponent for cold weather warfare amid two decades of missions that push it’s units out to far different environments, namely the Middle East, according to Army Alaska commander Maj. Gen. Peter Andrysiak.
“The Army went through a massive transformation and it went to a [brigade combat team]-centric Army to standardize the equipment and organizational structure,” Andrysiak said Friday. “So the equipment was largely very similar across the force and we no longer had niche capabilities to operate in very unique environments.” ....
