Maternal Health Around the World
The term maternal health refers to women’s health throughout the stages of pregnancy and childbirth as well as during the postnatal period. Maternal health has a direct impact on both the mother and child.
Every day, approximately 810 women die from causes related to preventable childbirth and pregnancy. Providing good quality maternity care in order to prevent these includes supporting the nutrition of mother and baby, treating diseases, supporting women who are exposed to intimate partner violence, and providing universal access to sexual and reproductive care.

India needs interventions for management of sepsis in maternal and child healthcare

Last year the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) data was rolled out. Initial glitches notwithstanding, data was collected across half the states and several important aspects of household profiles were comprehensively presented, including marriage and fertility, family planning services, maternal and child health, delivery care, child immunisation, treatment of childhood diseases, nutrition and feeding practices, anaemia, diabetes , hypertension and cancer examination. It reflects the state of health of the nation and highlights the many maternal and child health interventions undertaken across states.
However I was surprised to see very little research on the state of maternal and neonatal sepsis in India. Sepsis rates have an overall impact on maternal and neonatal mortality, and combating it will save lives and directly contribute to the achievement of SDG 3 (Sustainable Development Goals). Maternal, child deaths  worry Kabale leaders

Authorities in Kabale District have expressed concern over the increasing cases of maternal and prenatal mortality, urging the key players to reverse the trend.
The acting district health officer, Mr Alfred Besigensi, says in 2020, they registered 13 cases of maternal deaths and 71 cases of prenatal (around birth) deaths while in 2019, they had 10 cases of maternal mortality and 66 cases of prenatal deaths.
He adds that in 2018, cases of maternal deaths were five and those of prenatal were 41 while in 2017 maternal deaths registered were nine, and 51 perinatal deaths. ....
