The International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) yearly report on the world’s most pressing humanitarian situations has just been published, with the three most disastrous cases Yemen, Afghanistan, and Syria all the product of decades of interventionist U.S. foreign policy.
For the third year in a row, Yemen has topped the IRC list, the report estimating that 80% of the country’s 29 million citizens are in need of humanitarian assistance. “The world is facing unprecedented humanitarian emergencies as well as a political crisis of inaction by world leaders,” they warn.
20.5 million people inside Yemen lack access to clean water and sanitation. This is in no small part due to the five-year-long Saudi-led coalition onslaught against the country, which has seen over 200 targeted attacks against medical or sanitation infrastructure equivalent to one air raid every ten days. Turkish forces and its loyal factions stepped up Tuesday their missile strikes in the vicinity of the town of Ain Issa, which is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern countryside of Raqqa.
The exchange of fire between the SDF and Turkish-backed factions coincided with an infiltration attempt by Turkish-backed factions into SDF posts in the village of Maalak near the M4 road.
Turkish forces also shelled the towns of Sayda in the same area, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported. ....

Kurds Look to Russian to Help Secure Key Syrian City

In a surprising turn of events, Russia and the Syrian government of Bashar Assad have agreed with the U.S.-backed Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to establish three joint military observation posts in the town of Ayn Issa.
Ayn Issa is of crucial importance since it links Aleppo to al-Hasakah and is located along the strategically important M-4 highway that connects the northeastern with the western part of the country.
The posts will monitor the ceasefire and any violations by Turkish-proxy militias in the region.
The three groups, seemingly at odds, have “agreed to establish three points… to reduce the violations against our people in Ain Issa and Ain Issa countryside”, Riyadh al-Khalaf, the military council leader for the Tal Abyad district, said in a statement, according to Kurdistan 24. ....

Assad regime complains to UN over "violation of sovereignty" as American delegation visits SDF-controlled NE Syria

The Assad regime has submitted an official complaint to the United Nations Security Council over a visit in October by a delegation of American officials, headed by the Commissioner of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (‘Rojava’), insisting that this is a “violation of sovereignty”, although it’s not the first such visit by American and other Western delegations to the area, which is under the control of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In a Tweet concerning the Assad regime’s condemnation of the visit, USCIRF Commissioner Nadine Mainza posted a copy of the complaint submitted to the UNSC by the regime’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Bashar Jaafari, with the words, “Assad Government condemns my visit to NE #Syria in official complaint to @UN Security Council saying an American delegation led by Nadine Maenza.illegally entered the 7 km ....
