Affordable housing supply fails to meet goal: Official

The supply of affordable housing for low-income earners in urban areas and industrial park workers has only met around 42 percent of the target, Bui Xuan Dung, Director of the Ministry of Construction’s Housing and Real Estate Market Management Agency, told a recent workshop.
A lack of available land and funding were to blame for the social housing shortage, Dung told the “Social Housing: The Establishment of the 2021 - 2030 Comprehensive Social Housing Policy in Vietnam” workshop on April 20 in Hanoi. ....

Build up terminals 5 and 6 of Haiphong"s Lach Huyen Port

Terminal 5 and 6 will meet direct export-import needs to the European and American markets
Investment capital for the project is VND6.425Â trillion ($279.35 million), 15 per cent of which will be equity while the remaining 85 per cent will come from loans and other sources.
The project will be separated into twoÂ phases, with the first one (VND6.073 trillion [$264Â million]) lasting from 2020 to 2025, and the VND352.23 billion ($15.3 million) second one from 2030 until after 2030.
Terminals 5 and 6 will be 375m long eachÂ and be able to receive vessels of 100,000DWT. It is being invested by HATECO Group JSC and will operate for 70 years.
The construction of phase 1 is expected to take four years from the approval of the decision on investment policy, while phase 2 is expected to be built within one year. ....

Vietnam port container volumes up 8.5% in 2020, expansion underway

Vietnam container port volumes increased by 8.5% last year to 16.94m teu, up from 15.62m teu in 2019.
Growth was primarily driven by substantial terminals in Lach Huyen, in central Vietnam, and Cai Mep in the South province of Vung Tau, close to Ho Chi Minh City.
Volume at Lach Huyen, a public private partnership between the government of Japan and Vietnam which was inaugurated in 2018, jumped from 418,558 teu to 661,071 teu while container cargo at Cai Mep terminals grew to 4.41m teu, up from 3.74m teu the year before.
Last month, Gemalink, a joint venture between CMA CGM and Vietnamese corporation Gemadept, began operations at Cai Mep. ....

Late January 2021, after two weeks of appraising the investment plan of container terminals 5 and 6 at Lach Huyen International Gateway Port area, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) reported its findings to the prime minister.
Accordingly, the project in the northern port city of Haiphong that was proposed by HATECO Group meets the requirements to be approved in line with the prevailing rules.
âThe MPI proposes that the prime minister considers and approves the investment plan of the project in line with the Law on Investment,â stated the report. ....
