City Council gives OK for westside library branch sponsorship program

New Braunfels City Council members have given the green-light to a sponsorship program that will benefit the now under construction westside branch of the New Braunfels Public Library.
The sponsorship program approved by council members on Monday will allow local businesses and residents the opportunity to give to the library and receive recognition for their support.
“We’re really excited when we contemplate the opening of another public space for this community,” said Library Director Gretchen Pruett. “In a public space like this, the city has used partnerships through sponsoring opportunities such as those at Das Rec to collect revenue and put community naming opportunities throughout the building.” ....

New Braunfels and Comal County parks facilities open through holiday weekend

Independence Day falls on a Sunday and celebrated Monday this year, and it’s a sure bet many New Braunfels and Comal County residents will toss in Friday for a four-day holiday weekend.
The area will truly experience a new sense of freedom this July 4th period — exactly one year since the height of COVID-19 and executive orders began mandating protective face coverings in most private and public areas throughout Texas.
Social distancing didn’t subdue attendance at county and city parks last year, and all will be open throughout the weekend. City and county offices and businesses will be closed Monday, but many other venues will have amended hours. ....

New Braunfels City Council votes to lift mask rule for city buildings

New Braunfels City Council members on Monday unanimously voted to lift a mandate requiring the public to don face coverings while visiting city facilities.
The new policy went into effect immediately. Per Gov. Abbott’s executive order, members of the public visiting city facilities are “strongly encouraged” to wear a mask or other face covering, but they will no longer be required to do so.
On March 8, council members voted to increase capacity and operate all city facilities at 100% occupancy but continue requiring the public to use face coverings when social distancing was not feasible.
That decision came after Abbott’s executive order rescinding statewide face covering and occupancy requirements went into effect. ....

Masks stay in New Braunfels city buildings, but council opens the doors to 100%

Following a 90-minute discussion that included comments from numerous residents, New Braunfels City Council members on Monday elected to operate all city facilities at 100% occupancy but require the use of face coverings by the public when social distancing is not feasible.
The decision comes as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order rescinding statewide face covering and occupancy requirements goes into effect.
Abbott’s order allows businesses and other establishments to decide whether to require their employees and customers to follow additional hygiene measures, including the wearing of a face covering. Cities fall under the category of “other establishments.”
Council members are expected to revisit the decision on face coverings and facility occupancy during a meeting scheduled for April 12. ....
