From flowers to vaccines, Kenya Airways sees new opportunity

(MENAFN - AFP) With passenger traffic in a slump, airlines are turning to freight to fill the gap and Kenya Airways spies an advantage in the market to deliver temperature-sensitive Covid vaccines: its expertise in flying fresh roses to Europe.
Some 3,000 tonnes of flowers are currently exported every week from Nairobi s international airport under demanding cool-storage conditions akin to those required to safely ship Covid vaccines.
Jabs earmarked for Africa risk spoilage if not transported within precise temperature ranges from ground handling to shipment and delivery a logistical feat beyond many infrastructure-poor countries on the continent.

US President Joe Biden has approved an executive order to impose sanctions on the leaders of Myanmar s coup.
President Joe Biden said that his administration will impose sanctions against those involved in last week s military coup in Myanmar and demanded that the country immediately return power to that nation s democratically elected government.
The sanctions will target military leaders who directed the coup, as well as their business interests and close family members.
In brief remarks, Biden said he had approved an executive order to immediately sanction the leaders responsible for the Feb. 1 coup, with an initial round of targets to be identified this week. He also called on the military to release detained activists and political officials, including de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint. ....

U.S. Stocks Turning In Another Lackluster Performance
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stocks have shown a lack of direction over the course of the trading day on Thursday, extending the lackluster performance seen in the two previous sessions. While the tech-heavy Nasdaq has spent the day hovering in positive territory, the Dow and the S&P 500 have been lingering near the unchanged line.
Currently, the major averages are turning in another mixed performance. The Dow is down 29.78 points or 0.1 percent at 31,408.02, while the Nasdaq is up 55.80 points or 0.4 percent at 14,028.34 and the S&P 500 is up 4.18 points or 0.1 percent at 3,914.06.
The chopping trading on Wall Street comes as buying interest seems somewhat subdued following recent strength but traders have also largely refrained from cashing in on the recent gains amid concerns about missing out on further upside. ....
