Hays County POSAC set to discuss bond projects during upcoming meeting

The Hays County Parks and Open Space Advisory Commission (POSAC) will host a virtual meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to present and discuss a project-filled agenda.
POSAC was established by the Hays County Commissioners Court in February of 2020.
Initially, the purpose of the commission was to establish a process to study the possibility for a potential park, open space, and conservation bond program and to solicit recommendations to the Hays County Commissioners Court on the viability of including a potential bond package on the November 2020 ballot.
This would ultimately lead to Proposition A. According to the POSAC web page, Proposition A “called for the issuance of $75,000,000 in general bonds, along with other potential funding mechanisms, to establish parks, open spaces, conservation lands, and other recreational opportunities.” ....

County considers buying curbside voting equipment

The Hays County Commissioners Court will consider utilizing grant funding to purchase equipment to support curbside voting.
The commissioners will discuss authorizing the county’s elections administration office to use grant funding from the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) to purchase Hart Verity Duo Go for curbside voting and to upgrade the Hart Verity Voting System during Tuesday s meeting.
The county’s elections administrator has received authorization from CTCL to use the grant funding for the voting system upgrade and equipment purchase, according to the commissioners court agenda. Additionally, the system upgrade would put the Verity Election System to a Windows 10 Enterprise platform, which will ensure the voting system has the most recent software updates with enhanced functionality. ....

Hays County POSAC accepting new project ideas

Hays County’s Parks and Open Space Advisory Commission (POSAC) is seeking additional ideas and project recommendations to be funded by the recently passed Parks Bond.
Hays County Proposition A, Parks & Open Space Bond was passed with around 70% of voters in approval in the November 2020 Election to fund $75 million dollars of projects.
POSAC provided recommendations for 16 projects that might be funded by the bond, and they are now seeking additional project ideas related to urban parks, conservation and open space, connectivity and water quality protection and flood mitigation. Projects can meet the goals of one or more of these categories. ....

PROVIDENCE, RI (STL.News) The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announces that it has purchased the former
Echo Lake Campground in Burrillville. The 235-acre property is located on the west side of Echo Lake, also known as Pascoag Reservoir, and contains 2,200 feet of linear frontage on the lake.
“This acquisition is an unparalleled opportunity to secure a large swath of the freshwater shoreline on Echo Lake along with a substantial tract of conserved forestland,” said DEM Director Janet Coit. “DEM’s purchase of this property further protects water quality and provides significant recreational benefits in northern Rhode Island and is a nice complement to our George Washington Management Area.” The campground’s location on a large freshwater lake makes this property a key recreational asset.
