Go to a museum in Nebraska to see this iconic California hot rod

An iconic segment of the California hot rod culture is on display in a museum, but it’s a museum halfway across the country. The
Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, but is showcasing the famed little black Model T hot rod built by a youngster named Ed Iskenderian, who soon would become famous for creating high-performance camshafts. “Isky” anticipates celebrating his 100th birthday on July 10.
If the Nebraska location for the famous hot rod seems strange, consider that the car is displayed with Ed Winfield’s cam grinder that Isky used as well as with the only other pair of Maxi cylinder heads known to exist. The car is owned by Isky and is in Nebraska on a long-term loan.

Mercedes F1 Really, Really Could Have Used Another Easy Year

Photo: Mark Thompson (Getty Images)
2021 is likely to be an interesting year for Mercedes F1 and, by extension, the entire Formula 1 grid. The team didn’t win the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in the typically dominant fashion that most of us probably expected. Merc’s Lewis Hamilton got lucky when an illegal outside pass from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen forced the Dutch driver to concede the position he gained. By the time he did, his tires no longer had the grip to make a run at Hamilton again.

The perception of many fans and certainly Mercedes itself, given the way team boss Toto Wolff has been talking lately is that the Silver Arrows team doesn’t have the fastest car. During its recent run of utter dominanceMercedes has maintained a habit of playing underdog whenever things looked even a little sub-optimal then going unchallenged for the championship. So Wolff’s doomsaying should be taken with a grain of salt.

Maharashtra: Thane Covid centre patients shifted over oxygen concerns

Thirty patients had to be shifted
from a COVID care centre in Thane city to a nearby hospital as the stock of medical oxygen was getting exhausted, a civic official said on Sunday.
The move to shift the patients from Thane Municipal Corporation s Parking Plaza COVID care centre to Global Hospital on Saturday evening was taken to avoid inconvenience and disruption in treatment, he added.
In a release, the TMC said fresh oxygen supply to the centre was expected within a day, but, as a precautionary measure, new admissions have been stopped for the moment.
The TMC on Sunday appointed deputy municipal commissioner (Tax) Ashwini Waghmale as officer in charge to coordinate the purchase, storage and distribution of medical oxygen gas and Remdesivir injections, a release by civic spokesperson Sandeep Malavali said.

These Are The Best Photos From Formula One's Pre-Season Testing

These Are The Best Photos From Formula One s Pre-Season Testing

This weekend has seen Formula One cars hit the track for the first time in a few months. Not for a race, but for the only three days of testing these machines are going to get this year before they kick off competition. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been craving a little bit of open-wheel action.

I’m not going to try to claim that we’re going to learn a lot about 2021 s F1 cars through this test. I know plenty of folks are arguing that, since there aren’t many opportunities for testing this year, no one is going to be sandbagging and we’ll be more likely to see genuine pace through these sessions. I… disagree.

F1 To Offer Discounted Tickets To Make Races More Accessible

At this point, I think we’re all aware that Formula One is a notoriously elitist sport that costs a lot of money, whether it be from competitors or from race fans. The series has already looked to cut costs for competitors. Now, it’s turning its attention to race fans.

Did Sebastian Vettel Actually Forget How To Go Fast?

My dog woke me up this morning at 3 AM, and I couldn’t get back to sleep. As luck would have it, it was the perfect time for me to log into F1TV to catch pre-season testing. I’ve always been an F1 fan, but last year really drew me in, and this year I’m more invested than I ever have been. So why not flip it on and see how everyone stacks up. Obviously pre-season testing isn’t going to determine how anyone does when the lights go out at the season opener in a couple weeks, but there are some interesting takeaways here.

F1 2021 Spotter Guide: All The New Liveries, Cars and Drivers

Photo: Mark Thompson (Getty Images)
The 2021 Formula 1 season is right around the corner, kicking off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on the weekend of March 26. With the introduction of the Ferrari SF21 today, we have now seen the liveries on each of the 10 teams’ 2021 cars, and it’s clear there will be some stunners in the field.
So why not take this opportunity to familiarize yourself with them all before we go racing? Here you’ll find images of the chassis themselves, their drivers and numbers, and a little blurb on each team’s current status as we enter 2021 s 23-race calendar barring any postponements or cancellations, of course.

Today I Learned About Jesus Saves Racing (And No, It Wasn't A NASCAR Team)

I like to consider myself something of a 1970s Formula One encyclopedia, but if there’s one person in this world who can outdo me, it’s my good pal Josh Wilcock, who taught me about a fun little racing team called Jesus Saves Racing.

I stumbled on a ‘Jesus Saves’ sponsor in a photo from the 1975 British Grand Prix while hunting for a photo of an American race car driver (which is the header photo for this story). After posting it on Twitter, Wilcock responded with a photo that completely changed the course of my day.

François Cevert, Formula One, And The Myths Of Dead Heroes

François Cevert died at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York on October 6, 1973. During his Formula One career, he had only won one race: the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in 1971. In the endurance racing world, he finished second at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971.

Cevert died during the last moments of qualifying in 1973. Despite having set a comfortable time, he thought he could better it. He ran several laps to warm up the car. Then, he set out on his flying lap.
During the time, the Esses were a difficult corner. Team leader Jackie Stewart and Cevert disagreed about how to take it. The Tyrrell that year could be jumpy, so Stewart preferred to take the Esses in fourth gear at the low end of the engine’s rev range. It was calmer that way, easier to control. Cevert, though, preferred third gear, at the top end of the engine’s rev range. It was quicker in some ways, but it required a gear change partway through the corner, and it was jumpier.

I Really Think Williams Can Start To Turn It Around This Year

I Really Think Williams Can Start To Turn It Around This Year

Williams Grand Prix Engineering had some real wild up and down times in Formula One across the 2010s. Despite showing some promise in 2014 and 2015 with Mercedes power at the start of the hybrid era, the team dug itself a hole and has thus far not been able to haul its way out. In 2018, 2019, and 2020 the team has scored tenth and last in the World Constructors Championship, and the 2020 season marked the first time in history that Williams failed to score any points at all. It’ll take a lot to get the team turned around, and I think 2021 is that time.
