John Lyras (67, 11-under)
On backing up his opening round
“It was a nice feeling leading the tournament after one round but hit a really nice drive down 10 and made a nice birdie on the first of the day and that settled me down a little bit. I hit the ball a lot better today. I played a really solid round of golf today, I was pretty happy with it. Just had to stay really patient and let the golf course come to me and let the scoring opportunities come when they did. It was a little trickier out here today. The greens were firming up and there were a few tougher little pin positions out there so you just had to be a little bit more defensive than you would normally would like to be. I’m really happy with the patience I showed today ....

Though it’s much more casual than the usual professional golf tours – players are allowed to wear shorts, for example, and ride in carts – Australia’s Legends Tour still abides by some longstanding traditions.
One is that winners must wear long pants at the presentation.
And that presented a problem for Richard Backwell, whose round of four under-par 68 earned him the title at Friday’s Maroochy River Legends Pro-Am.
Richard Backwell, in his borrowed long pants, delivers his victory speech.
Backwell had given so little thought to his chances of winning that he turned up at Maroochy River in just his shorts and golf shirt, and had to borrow trousers from a fellow pro, who had a spare pair in his car. ....

Sim, Murray make moves before play suspended at Vic PGA | PGA of Australia

A mindset shift that saw him shake off a triple bogey brought about by hitting the wrong ball on Thursday has propelled Victorian Zach Murray into contention midway through the second round of the Victorian PGA Championship at the Moonah Links Resort.
Dire weather predictions failed to come to fruition for those out early with a strengthening breeze the only defence to the low scoring that has dominated the first two days, lightning in the area and rain forcing a suspension of play at 1.45pm AEDT.
Overnight leader Dimi Papadatos created a two-shot buffer to the rest of the field with only the 18th still be completed while Sim’s second consecutive 6-under 66 elevated him into outright second, one shot ahead of Blake Windred, James Marchesani, Anthony Quayle and Aaron Wilkin (through 16 holes) at 11-under. ....
