Morgantown firefighters won't see reduction in pay after settling issue with city


MORGANTOWN – The City of Morgantown and members of its fire department have agreed to a proportional increase in base pay that will result in no change of pay.
Last week, the city and 47 members of International Association of Firefighters Local 313 announced they had mutually resolved the firefighters claim that they were entitled to shift differential pay under the city s personnel rules, pending approval by City Council.
The City of Morgantown recently has undertaken efforts to clarify and enforce existing personnel policies for all employees, to follow-through on completing a citywide employee compensation study, and to reorganize city operations to achieve greater effectiveness in delivering services to its constituents and taxpayers, a joint statement issued May 13 states. Morgantown and firefighters resolve issues related to shift differential pay


MORGANTOWN – The City of Morgantown and members of its fire department have resolved issues related to shift differential pay that led to a lawsuit and a potential civil service commission hearing.
The city and 47 members of the International Association of Firefighters Local 313 jointly announced the resolution in a statement May 7. The agreement is contingent on Morgantown City Council approving the terms, but both parties say they anticipate that approval.
The City of Morgantown and certain individual firefighters, who are members of IAFF 313, jointly announce that they have mutually resolved the firefighters claim that they were entitled to shift differential pay under the Personnel Rules of the CIty of Morgantown, the statement notes. No other details of the resolution are available, and attorney Teresa Toriseva declined further comment on behalf of the firefighters. ....

Morgantown files lawsuit to stop civil service hearing regarding firefighters' pay


MORGANTOWN – The City of Morgantown wants a circuit judge to stop a hearing regarding its decision to stop paying shift differential pay to firefighters.
The city filed the complaint against its Fire Civil Service Commission this week in Monongalia Circuit Court. The city maintains that the commission doesn’t have the authority to conduct a hearing on the issue, saying it would take control of personnel issues away from city officials.
The firefighters disagree.

“The City of Morgantown has now sued one of its own commissions,” attorney Teresa Toriseva told
The West Virginia Record. “It has filed suit against the Fire Fighter Civil Service Commission to stop the commission from holding a hearing about the illegal and retaliatory $2,000 per year pay cut against 47 professional firefighters.” ....
