Public records expert: 'Very suspicious' that June 2020 texts from Seattle leaders all went missing

With questions still surrounding missing June 2020 text messages from a collection of high-ranking Seattle city officials, could there be legal ramifications? Public records expert and Kirkland City Councilmember Toby Nixon spoke to KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show to provide some insight.
Evidence of the missing texts first surfaced when a whistleblower complaint alleged Mayor Jenny Durkan’s office failed to properly handle a series of public records requests, after it discovered that the mayor’s text messages between August 2019 and June 2020 had gone missing.
Lawsuits filed against the city regarding the CHOP further revealed that Durkan’s texts weren’t the only messages among local leaders from last June that had disappeared, with the list also including then-SPD Chief Carmen Best, Fire Chief Harold Scoggins, and multiple members of SPD’s command staff. ....

Mayoral candidate Colleen Echohawk issued a letter to state Attorney General Bob Ferguson this week, calling on him to open an investigation into the recent discovery of 10 months of missing text messages from current Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan.
This comes in the wake of a whistleblower complaint revealed last week, which had alleged Durkan’s office failed to properly handle a series of public records requests, after it discovered that the mayor’s text messages between August 2019 and June 2020 had gone missing. According to the city attorney’s office, that gap was caused by “a retention setting in her iPhone.” ....

Mariners to vaccinate fans during games

SEATTLE The Mariners are the first team in Major League Baseball that will make COVID-19 vaccines available to fans attending games at T-Mobile Park.
The club announced plans Monday to do so via a partnership with the City of Seattle and Sounders FC, which began executing a similar process at its match on Sunday.
The plan is for this to be an ongoing availability at Mariners home games until further notice, beginning with Tuesday’s 7:10 p.m. PT contest against the Orioles.

In a stark contrast to just a month ago, the city of Seattle is practically begging residents to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Now, people can get it done during the 7th-inning stretch.
Starting Tuesday, when the Mariners host the Baltimore Orioles, the Seattle Fire Department will be giving out vaccines at Mariners home games, something first offered at Sunday s Sounders game, where 83 fans got their first dose.
“Having a presence at our City’s sporting events allows us to go where the people are to provide vaccinations. We want to make access to the vaccine as easy as possible, and are excited to announce that Marines fans can now attend Tuesday’s game with family and friends, and also receive either their first dose of the Moderna vaccine or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson,” Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scoggins said in a news releas ....
