New bill could guarantee attorneys for low-income tenants getting evicted

New bill could guarantee attorneys for low-income tenants getting evicted
Washington state could soon be the first in the country now to guarantee attorneys for low income tenants who are getting evicted, reports the Seattle Times. A bill is expected to pass this legislative session and it would provide lawyers to tenants who can’t afford legal help or have incomes below the federal poverty level.
As a result of this, the state is scrambling to hire attorneys before the eviction moratorium is lifted on June 30.
“This is phenomenal news because there are a lot of renters right that either a don’t understand the law and what’s legal and what’s not legal when it comes to renting and their rights,” said KIRO Radio’s Gee Scott.

Amazon is considering building fulfillment centers in three Seattle locations according to a Seattle Times report, including two near the Mount Baker light-rail station, and one in Interbay. Part of the thrust is that putting those fulfillment centers in centralized locations will enable more efficient delivery of packages.
KIRO Radio’s Ursula Reutin posed a question to co-host Gee Scott: “Would you be OK with a fulfillment center being put in down the street from your house?”
“I’m gonna go ahead and be OK with the fulfillment center being in the neighborhood,” Gee responded. “How could I not be excited about the local economy? … That means that there will be some more local businesses that will get more money.”

Juneteenth is going to become an official Washington state holiday, as soon as the governor signs legislation that has now passed both the state Senate and House.
“Observing June 19th as Juneteenth will recognize the significance of America’s history of slavery, the vestiges of which continue in the oppression from institutional racism that remain today,” Gov. Jay Inslee said.

Ross: No more going backwards and shutting down what's open

We keep hearing we’re not out of the woods yet; try to hang on for a few more weeks or months while more people get vaccinated – and I’m ready to do that. What I’m not ready for is moving backwards and shutting down things that were open.
I can’t think of anything more demoralizing for a business owner or for anybody getting a little taste of freedom. But the other thing I worry about if we roll back is whether, going forward, anyone is going to believe that government officials know what they’re doing, or trust these “data-driven” decisions.
