Teens, civic leaders rally against anti-Asian hate

A large crowd marched through downtown Mountain View Sunday to protest anti-Asian hate.
Hundreds of people took to the streets of downtown Mountain View Sunday to show support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, as well as to call attention to anti-Asian racism both historically and in the present day.
Protesters gathered at the Mountain View train station and marched to Mountain View City Hall, where speakers, including young people and elected officials, addressed the crowd. High school students spearheaded the event.
Los Altos High School junior Jeannette Wang volunteered to help organize the event after seeing repeated reports of anti-Asian hate incidents. Wang has friends and family members who are afraid to go outside and is fearful for her own grandparents’ safety. ....

Students take part in a fall 2019 robotics competition with Pioneers in Engineering (PiE), a nonprofit that offers STEM-focused mentorship and education to Bay Area high-schoolers.
Living in Silicon Valley, it may be difficult to imagine not having access to computers, coding and robotics. However, that is the reality for many high schoolers in the Bay Area – one that a UC Berkeley-based nonprofit with a local high school graduate on its board aims to change.

New Bohemia’s craft lagers include a Santa Cruz take on pilsner.
New Bohemia Brewing Co. opened in Santa Cruz in 2015, and co-founder and brewmaster Dan Satterthwaite’s education (Siebel Institute) and experience (brewing at Trumer Brewery and Gordon Biersch after honing his skills at a small family-owned brewery in Germany) led him down the path of brewing craft lagers years before those styles gained the popularity they enjoy today.
In addition to traditional German styles, New Bohemia produces a wide variety of creative takes on IPA and dark beers, often integrating unique ingredients. Japanese white peach hazy session IPA, pineapple hefeweizen and peanut butter and jelly imperial porter are a few recent examples. ....

The exhibition was opened on Saturday 27 March by Victoria’s Chief of Navy, Commodore Greg Yorke.
The exhibition includes a background painting by maritime artist Randall Wilson and a documentary by Wayne Gibbs.
Two veterans that served on the ship, Petty Officer Des Shinkfield and Signalman Bruce Crowlmong, were among the 60 people at the opening. ....
