Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said a boardwalk store clerk charged with falsely claiming “young African American children” robbed his store did so as part of an ongoing issue involving merchants complaining about crime and calling for more policing of the boardwalk.
The clerk, Malik Awais, 26, of Egg Harbor Township, is facing charges of making a false report to police. He allegedly claimed individuals stole $100 in merchandise from H&A Fashions and caused over $5,000 worth of property damage something contradicted by surveillance footage, Deputy Chief James A. Sarkos said at a press conference the mayor held Wednesday. ....

Norwalk Zoners pressure Chick-fil-A to resolve traffic blockage

NORWALK, Conn. Traffic jams at the Connecticut Avenue Chick-fil-A are due to the pandemic, according to Attorney Liz Suchy, who said it’s “most problematic” on Friday and especially Saturday afternoons “when folks are out and about, and now especially that we’re feeling a little bit more liberated and desirous of getting out of our homes.”  Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays per a nationwide company policy.
Even if Chick-Fil-A’s  drive-through traffic is re-routed onto adjacent Rampart Road and through the parking lot, the line is so long that it blocks Connecticut Avenue’s outside lane, leaving  only one passable eastbound lane, according to Zoning Commissioner Galen Wells. ....

In a year when anything could go wrong for Deborah Smick, everything did.
A series of compounding misfortunes delivered Smick last Tuesday evening to a Route 1 intersection in South Brunswick where she was struck and killed by an SUV.
It was 10 months after she and her son George were evicted from their North Brunswick apartment, forcing them to live out of their aging Ford Explorer during a pandemic.
It was hours after the worn-out starter went on the SUV, leaving the pair stranded in the parking lot of the Wendy’s where Deborah Smick worked. ....

SOUTH BRUSNWICK, NJ Ten months ago, Deborah Smick and her son George, were evicted from their North Brunswick apartment, forcing them to live in their car as the pandemic raged.
On Tuesday, things got worse. With the nor easter fast approaching, Deborah, 68, and George needed to get their car fixed. Their Ford Explorer had broken down at the Wendy s parking lot on Route 1, where she worked.
They called a tow truck, but the driver refused to drive them to the nearby service station, said George. They argued with the driver, and finally gave up. ....
