Agriculture sector being groomed with China's help: Minister--China Economic Net

LAHORE, May 6 (Gwadar Pro) - Finance Minister of Punjab, Pakistan Makhdoom Hashim Javan Bakht said on Wednesday afternoon that the province’s agriculture sector was being groomed with the help of Iron Brother China.

Chairing a pre-budget consultative meeting with leading economists under the Sub-National Governance Programme (SNG) here, the minister said the government had sought Chinese technology to improve the agriculture sector and Beijing was generously cooperating.

“The development of agro-related industries would also be an important part of the future development agenda and providing social security would also be the top priority of the Punjab government in the next budget,” he said, according to an official statement. Bakht said the financial year (FY) 2021-22 would be the year of economic rehabilitation. ....

PESHAWAR: A delegation at Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in Pakistan visited Haripur district to learn about the challenges in governance and service delivery in the district administration.
An official handout said the delegation members met Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance & Planning Tabinda Tariq and other officers.
They also discussed the planned technical assistance of the FCDO and how it is helping them in addressing their reform plans.
The statement said that the FCDO is providing technical assistance through Sub-National Governance (SNG) Programme, a 4-year project supporting the provincial governments of KP and Punjab, as well as local governments (LG), to create better enabling environment for enhanced service delivery through institutional strengthening and efficient use of public funds. ....

Islamabad:Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Zain Sahi, Chairperson has said that due to high rates of taxes, critical fiscal incentives were introduced including reduction in rates in Punjab.
Mr Sahi was speaking at a webinar on ‘Towards a more innovative, effective and enabling provincial sales tax regime’ jointly organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute and Sub National Governance here on Saturday.
Mr Sahi said that data from external sources was needed to identify taxpayers outside tax net but data analysis capabilities in the public sector also needed improvements. Therefore, PRA, he said, was willing to share its data with others government entities on reciprocal basis. ....

ISLAMABAD: Improvement in tax collection by provinces is critically important to ensure sustainable investments for human resource development in the country, experts agreed.
They were addressing a webinar titled ‘towards a more innovative, effective and enabling provincial sales tax regime’, jointly organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Sub National Governance (SNG).
Vaqar Ahmed, joint executive director of SDPI said revenues of provinces must grow by almost 20 percent per annum in the medium term to sustain investments in human development and enable infrastructure development.
“This target can be achieved through having and using better data and evidence on tax avoidance and evasion and a structured sector-specific dialogue with private sector,” Ahmed said. ....
