Romania to withdraw troops in Afghanistan in coordination with NATO members; 27 servicemen killed since start

Romania will withdraw its forces from Afghanistan in coordination with the other members of NATO starting with May 1, 2021, and all the 615 servicemen and over 80 tons of logistical elements and materiel will be extracted with national and coalition military aircraft, informs, on Tuesday, the Presidential Administration, at the end of the meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT).
CSAT analyzed and approved redeploying to Romania the military contingent in Afghanistan, at the end of the Resolute Support mission, according to a calendar agreed upon with the partners in NATO.
The redeployment will occur in stages and will take place over the coming months. ....

The Nigerian Army, on Monday, gave an update on the battle between troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Mainok, Borno State and Boko Haram/ISWAP members.
Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, Director, Army Public Relations, said the insurgents carried out under multi-directional attacks.
“Regrettably, one gallant officer and six soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice while 5 other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries”, his statement read.
The spokesman noted that the fighters stormed the battleground on an unconfirmed number of gun trucks and foot soldiers.
Their intent was to establish a phantom caliphate in the town, the Army added. ....

'US to continue counter-terrorism mission in Afghanistan after troops withdrawal'

Islamabad : Dr Kenneth Holland, former President, American University of Afghanistan, has said that US will continue its counter-terrorism mission in Afghanistan after troops withdrawal but over the horizon and in this regard may require Pakistan’s help in the form of its bases to fight against ISIS and terrorists in Afghanistan.
Dr Holland was addressing a virtual panel discussion on ‘Biden Administration: options & challenges for Pakistan-US Relations’ organised here by Centre for Strategic Perspectives at the Institute of Strategic Studies in collaboration with Area Study Centre for Africa, North & South America, Quaid-i-Azam University. Admitting that Pakistan had been a critical partner in every way for the US throughout the peace process, Dr Holland said that the importance may reduce once the US troops leave Afghanistan. ....
