mcschools.net BATON ROUGE, La. – Today the Louisiana Department of Education released the names of 21 students selected as finalists in the state’s annual Students of the Year competition. The 21 students selected include one elementary, middle and high school student from each of the state’s seven regions. The finalists represent traditional public, public charter and nonpublic schools. The finalists will participate in a virtual ceremony on April 21, when the winners will be announced for each grade level. “I’m proud of each of these finalists and would be honored to have any of them represent us as a Louisiana Student of the Year,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “Their achievements and hard work are proof that Louisiana’s children are as capable as any in the nation.” Public and nonpublic schools were asked to submit one candidate from their student body. ....
SJCES teachers find ways to make math interesting, enjoyable Friday, Feb. 05, 2021 Students in Rick Kelson s class at Saint Joseph Elementary School conduct a STEM activity. By Special to the Intermountain Catholic Kim Miller OGDEN Saint Joseph Catholic School math teachers Danielle Randall and Rick Kelson both have found cutting-edge ways to make math interesting and enjoyable for the students they teach. Randall has been teaching math at St. Joseph for four years and is in her second year of teaching honors math. “I taught high school before this and it has really made me a better middle-school teacher,” she said. “I know exactly what sorts of mistakes they are prone to make in high-school math and can teach in a way now that prevents those mistakes later.” ....
Another celebrated alumni, former Peace Corps volunteer and local realtor and broker, Jeff Blaha shared, The aspect of my Saint Joseph School education that I treasure the most is the moral and ethical values that I learned from the Daughters of Charity and the lay faculty. These values are strongly rooted in the Golden Rule, the Beatitudes, and the Prayer of St. Francis. I also learned the value of diversity.
