AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm made a stop in Colorado on Thursday. Granholm and Sen. John Hickenlooper toured a solar community garden in Aurora that provides clean energy to residential buildings in Denver.

Granholm said the project is an example of clean energy innovation that will help the U.S. reach the Biden administration’s goal of a clean electricity sector by 2035.
“There is a determination that we’re going to get to net zero carbon emissions by 2015 and 100% clean electricity by 2035,” Granholm said. ....

Sustainability Manager Honored with Lindquist Award

OGDEN, Utah – For her commitment to sustainability practices at Weber State University and in northern Utah, Jennifer Bodine has been honored with the John A. Lindquist Award for 2021 given through the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL).
This year CCEL will also present the first Ivory Prize to students committed to leadership and community engagement. The honorees, as well as community partners, faculty, staff and students involved in community engagement, will be recognized during a drive-through celebration at the Dee Events Center on April 15 from 2-4 p.m.

WSU Waits Announcement of Solar Decathlon Winner

On April 18, the U.S. Department of Energy will announce the winner of its international Solar Decathlon Build Challenge, and Weber State University is one of the nine finalists selected from teams around the world. The public will be able to tour the homes virtually, April 12 and 13.
The Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition in which student teams design and build high-performance, low-carbon homes powered by renewables. The winners are those teams that best blend architectural and engineering excellence with innovation. Weber State students, under the direction of Building Design & Construction Professor Jeremy Farner, built the net-zero home in central Ogden. The home, at 2807 Quincy Ave., is now occupied by homeowners, who were selected from a pool of interested buyers during the grand opening in October 2020. ....

Engineering team from UofL to compete in international solar decathlon

Faculty members and students from UofL’s Speed School of Engineering and Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research will compete as part of a team in the Second Solar Decathlon Middle East in Dubai in October.
The team also includes members from the American University of Sharjah, Higher Colleges of Technology and American University in Dubai, all located in the United Arab Emirates.
Team “Desert Phoenix” will compete with 14 other teams from around the world to design, build and operate sustainable models of solar-powered homes, with a focus on protecting the environment, taking into consideration the climate and culture of the region. ....
