The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has concluded plans to hold its 2021 Mandatory Continuous Professional Development workshop on sustainable building services. The NIOB said in a statement that it recognises the critical role of building services in providing comfort and utility to users and occupants, hence the need to address stability, functionality, economy and utility as key variables of user experience in a completed building. According to the institute, quality planning and expertise in the assembly of components contribute to the lifetime performance of a building. The President of the NIOB, Kunle Awobodu, said stories of leaking pipes, odour from improperly ventilated systems, poor installation of systems disruption in building utility could be attributed to poor workmanship. ....
Outstanding Grad: Bryan Flores-Amezquita, College of Health and Human Sciences 10 May, 2021 In May, he will be the first in his family to receive a college diploma. Flores credits his father, who he’d worked with on construction sites from the age of 15, for motivating him to pursue college. “He was like, ‘I know you can get something better. I want you to study, get a good degree, and not be working a job like mine,’” he said. Flores attended KIPP Denver Collegiate High School and credits his counselors there for helping him navigate his path to CSU. “I don’t think I would have attended CSU if it weren’t for [them], honestly,” he said. ....
Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering 22 Apr, 2021 The Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory will host the 21st Century Energy Transition Symposium, May 4-5 and 14. The event will be online only and free of charge. Last year’s symposium was cancelled due to the pandemic. Though the virtual symposium is free this year, registration is required. Attendees may choose to attend all or part of the symposium. The Collaboratory, made up of Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado School of Mines and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is a research consortium focused on building energy-related collaborations among the four member entities. The Energy Transition Symposium, now in its ninth year, is a nonpartisan, educational event focused on research-driven solutions for the world’s energy challenges. ....
College of Health and Human Sciences 11 Feb, 2021 Students from Colorado State University’s Department of Construction Management are continuing a long-standing tradition of participating in regional and national competitions, albeit virtually this year. CM is fielding teams for the Associated Schools of Construction, Regions 6 & 7 student competition, the Associated Builders and Contractors Construction Management Competition, and the Roofing Alliance Construction Management student competition. Three teams place in ASC competition The CM department had over 40 students, making up six teams and seven alternates, participate in the 34 th Annual ASC Regions 6 & 7 Student Competition held Feb. 3-6. This year ASC hosted 1,098 students on 152 teams, from 18 states and 47 universities in a virtual competition. CSU students showcased their knowledge, creativity and presentation skills, ....
