AUSTINTOWN Louis V. Italiano Sr., 88, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, Jan. 24, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
Lou will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his outgoing personality and his hard work ethic and strength, along with his smile.
He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Youngstown, the son of Vincent James and Mary Palone Italiano and was a lifelong area resident.
Lou was a 1950 graduate of Wilson High School and excelled in football, where he was a four-year letterman. Upon graduation, Lou heard the call of his country and enlisted on Feb. 13, 1951 in the United States Marine Corps, “Semper Fidelis,” where he proudly served in Korea during the Korean War. Lou earned the rank of sergeant with the weapons company and received an honorable discharge Feb. 12, 1954. ....

Historian, educator Bruce Woods remembered as great man with deep compassion for others


CROWN POINT — Friends and family gathered Monday afternoon to honor Bruce Woods, a beloved Lake County historian and educator. 
Rev. Mark Wilkins, senior pastor at First United Methodist Church of Crown Point, said those gathered at Burns Funeral Home — in person or via Facebook Live — were there to honor Woods greatness. 
It is sadly trite to begin a funeral service by saying that we come to remember a great man, Wilkins said.  The reason I say sadly is because greatness has become somewhat of a demeaning term in our modern culture. We attribute greatness to anyone from our greatest heroes all the way down to somebody whose chief skill is hitting 3-pointers in overtime.   ....

WARREN Daniel J. Szakacs, 86, of Warren, entered peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by those who loved him.
He was born Thursday, Sept. 13, 1934, in Youngstown, the son of the late Moses and Rose Nagy Szakacs and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1952 graduate of Vienna High School, Dan retired after 25 years of service in December 1999 from the Howland Local School System, where he worked in the maintenance department and was a steam boiler operator. He was also employed at the Sanitary Dairy for 22 years prior. Dan served his country faithfully and honorably in the Navy aboard the USS WASP during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1959. Dan enjoyed ballroom dancing, painting and in his younger years bowling. He was also an assistant Boy Scout master and enjoyed camping with the boys. ....

CANFIELD Theodore A. “Ted” Boggs Jr., 74, passed away peacefully with family by his side, Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 2020, at Briarfield Manor in Austintown.
Ted was born May 5, 1946, in Youngstown, a son of the late Theodore A. Boggs Sr. and Mary DePrim Boggs. He was a 1964 graduate of East High School and lived his life in this area.
Ted earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University, and later, a master’s degree in education from Westminster College in Pennsylvania.
A lifelong educator, Mr. Boggs taught at Frank Ohl Middle School in Austintown. He also coached the school’s basketball, track, and wrestling teams, and enjoyed singing with the school choir during the annual Christmas holiday concerts. Ted loved teaching and loved his students dearly. ....
