(RNS) On the first Wednesday in May, as the centennial of the Tulsa massacre approached, the Rev. Robert R.A. Turner stood outside Tulsa City Hall with his megaphone, as he does every week.
“Tulsa, you will reap what you sow and that which you have done unto the least of these my children, Jesus said, you have done also unto me,” said Turner, 38, the pastor of Historic Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church, captured on a video posted on Facebook. ....

Former Tulsa police officer faces fifth trial in slaying of his daughter's boyfriend in 2014

TULSA, Oklahoma (Tulsa World) Despite a request for a last-minute postponement, jury selection will begin Monday for Shannon Kepler, a former Tulsa police officer who is facing his fifth trial in connection with the shooting death of his eldest daughter’s boyfriend, Jeremey Lake.
Kepler was charged in federal court after the state Court of Criminal Appeals overturned his state manslaughter conviction and 15-year prison term on jurisdictional grounds.
Lake, 19, was shot to death Aug. 5, 2014, outside his aunt’s home just west of downtown Tulsa.
Kepler, 60, has never denied shooting Lake. However, he claims he shot in self-defense while off-duty after he drove his wife’s sport utility vehicle to Lake’s home while in search of his daughter, Lisa. ....

Judge Sides With City Of Tulsa In 2nd Hearing Of Tourism Improvement District Lawsuit

A more than two-year legal battle over the City of Tulsa’s proposed Tourism Improvement District appears to be coming to a close, with the city winning the fight over the special assessment.
Tulsa County District Judge William Musseman granted the city’s request for summary judgement Wednesday, agreeing with their arguments the 3% assessment on hotels with 110 rooms or more was established properly.
The owners of downtown’s Aloft hotel sued over the proposal in December 2018, claiming the city violated the law when it based the assessment district on hotels with at least 110 rooms rather than the 50 rooms in state statute. ....
