With season approaching, whether Alaska Crossings will run expeditions in Sitka still unclear

According to permit filings obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, Alaska Crossings, a major employer in Wrangell, is looking to move some or all of its operations to Sitka. That leaves business owners concerned about the loss of the wilderness-based behavioral health program that’s been anchored to Wrangell for more than 20 years.

Alaska Crossings is a program for at-risk teens that takes them on guided wilderness expeditions around central Southeast Alaska. For weeks at a time, small groups of kids and guides hike, paddle and camp to build confidence and learn real-life skills.   ....

COVID-19 panel discussion highlights Friday, April 2, 2021
One note this show will be reduced to every other week, on Fridays at the same time. There won’t be shows on April 9
th or 23
rd this month, unless needed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its guidelines for travel noting fully vaccinated people are less likely to get or spread COVID-19 and are safe to travel within the U.S. The CDC still recommending against non-essential travel but says the fully vaccinated or those who have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three month do not need to self-quarantine  or get tested before or after travel unless their destination requires it. What does that mean for the fully vaccinated here in Petersburg? ....

It’s stupid daylight savings again. I really wish Congress would just end it once and for all for the entire country. God forbid they do something the majority of Americans agree on. Things in the Capitol were loose as ever this week. We are nearly two thirds into the “90-day” legislative session. The end appears to be nowhere in sight.
