IRMO, S.C. (WIS) - Lexington-Richland School District Five has announced it will be partnering with Lexington Medical Center to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to staff members.
The vaccination events will be held on Friday, March 26 and Friday, April 16.
Employees must register with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vaccine Administration Management System. The district will then schedule an appointment.
Organizers say time slots are limited at this time. ....

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina lost about 170 each month for the past four months, according to new research from the Center for Educator Retention and Recruitment.
Teachers say they aren’t just leaving because of the pandemic: they say they reached their breaking point.
There are approximately 515 open positions, which is actually an improvement from the start of the school year. That could be because of a number of reasons. Teachers and researchers behind the report say there could be fewer open positions because spots are filled, classrooms are combined, vacancies being filled quickly, or substitute teachers started filling in full time. ....

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina teachers are crossing the North Carolina border to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
Currently, South Carolina is in Phase 1A of its vaccine roll-out. Despite an outspoken advocacy campaign by teacher groups and a legislative push, teachers remain in Phase 1B.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control scheduled
Phase 1B groups to be vaccinated in the early Spring.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On Tuesday, legislators discussed two bills that would move teachers and school staff into Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout.
Last week the Senate unanimously passed a bill that would move teachers and staff up to receive the vaccine. The House introduced a similar bill.
“My initial reaction was disappointment that the Governor didn’t consider this in the beginning,” House Minority Leader Rep. Todd Rutherford said ahead of the committee meeting. “There’s so many people’s lives that hinge on teachers getting these vaccines, and of course teachers need to be moved up. At this point, if we don’t, we can’t safely start schools. A lot of school districts simply won’t do ....
