Mumbai, March 9 : India s Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) screening programme, facilitated by Tata Trusts and Dell, has now grabbed the attention of several South Asian countries, officials said here on Tuesday.
While Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar are interested in replicating the NCD screening, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has presented it to the 11 member-countries of its South-East Asian Region for population-based screening and its large-scale utility by field-level health workers.
Launched in 2017, the programme has so far enrolled around 7 crore people (80 million) across 29 states and UTs and has screened around 30 million (3 crore) for diseases like diabetes, hypertension and certain types of cancers. ....

FSSAI: Packaged food companies request FSSAI to keep some products out of front-of-pack labelling regulations


Synopsis
“We have requested the authority to leave out certain products as they will fall under the unhealthy category due to practical issues. They should be kept out of the list at least in the first phase of implementation,” said a senior official of a packaged food company.

The authority in December notified the new labelling and display regulations making it mandatory to present nutritional information on principal panel in bigger font size.
Packaged food companies have requested the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to keep some products like juices, cookies, confectionery among others out of the front-of-pack labelling regulations that insist on display of detailed nutritional information prominently citing practical issues . ....
