The Health Service Executive (HSE) should establish a dedicated health unit to research the long-term effects of Covid-19 and to support patients, including healthcare staff, suffering the consequences of the disease months after contracting it, a Government TD has urged. ....

Cork can 'lead way' on outdoor dining after Covid-19 subsides


The council’s discussions with Princes Street traders also took account of safety considerations, she said.

Gardaí send two handguns found on Cork building site for ballistics and forensic tests


 
Gardaí have have sent two handguns found on a Cork building site for ballistics analysis to see whether they may be linked to a number of shootings in the city in recent years.
Investigators believe the two guns, a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol, were disturbed by workmen on a construction site at Ballincollie Road near Whites Cross on the city’s northside.
The workmen had been carrying out some excavation work on a ditch and the guns were discovered on Wednesday evening by some local teenagers who alerted gardaí from Watercourse Road.
The scene was preserved for a technical examination and the weapons have been sent for forensic and ballistics analysis by Garda technical experts in Dublin to see if they were used in any crime. ....

Rachael Hamilton: John PatonDay's mafia jibe 'inflammatory'


A PROMINENT SNP member in the Borders has been criticised for comparing the Conservatives to the mafia .
In the recent Leaderdale and Melrose by-election for Scottish Borders Council, John PatonDay, of the SNP, was defeated by Scottish Conservative representative Jenny Linehan.
Following the result, Mr PatonDay was quoted in the
Southern Reporter as saying: “I’m gutted. I’m just amazed that people can possibly vote for Tories – it’s like voting for the mafia.”
On the comment, Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton said: “I am shocked at the SNP’s John PatonDay and his comments about the newly elected councillor Jenny Linehan on her victory last week. ....
