For decades, violinist Paul Sonner has gotten up at 3 a.m. to practice his instrument for several hours before his day of teaching at Interlochen Arts Academy begins.
He practices for several hours each night after he gets home, too.
That s how you get to be a teacher at Interlochen and the concertmaster of two orchestras, he says.
Sonner is retiring from his job as instructor of violin at Interlochen this month, a role he s held for over 20 years.
He plans to maintain his roles as concertmaster of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, but just as long as I can be a leader and play my parts well. ....

Violinist Yevgeny Kutik Makes Solo Debut With Boston Civic Orchestra

On Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 3pm ET, Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik will make his debut as soloist with the Boston Civic Symphony, performing Beethoven s Violin Concerto. Led by Music Director Francisco Noya, the program will be free to watch, broadcast live from the First Church in Cambridge. The program also includes Respighi s The Birds and Walker s Lyric for Strings.
Beethoven s Violin Concerto is perhaps the best-known violin concerto in the entire repertoire. Interestingly, the premiere of this work in 1806 was not successful (possibly because the violinist was forced to sight-read the piece during the performance), so it lay un-played for nearly 40 years, says Kutik. It is a wonderful privilege and honor to be able to perform and study this great work - and ....

Springfield Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Susan Beaudry is leaving the SSO effective Friday as the venerable organization continues to struggle during the pandemic.
Her announced departure comes days after Maestro Kevin Rhodes, who has been with the SSO for 20 years, signed a 10-year extension of his contract with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in Michigan. He recently sold his Westfield home and moved to Michigan.
Rhodes told The Republican he has not left the SSO despite relocating 800 miles away. His current contract with the SSO is set to expires this year. ....

Traverse Symphony offers Home for the Holidays concert

Kevin Rhodes, who is celebrating his 20th year as music director of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, says the 2020 Home for the Holidays concert format, originally planned as a socially distanced show for a couple of hundred patrons, was changed multiple times because the changing nature of the pandemic.
