State governments will "white-knuckle" through the coming months due to vaccine shortages

Labor Senator Kimberley Kitching says state governments will have to “white-knuckle their way through the next five months” due to the supply chain issues in the Commonwealth vaccine rollout.

Modelling from the Department of Health forecasts the AstraZeneca vaccine will be phased out by October with the Pfizer and Moderna shots to be prioritised as part of the vaccination program.

Senator Kitching attributed vaccine supply chain issues to the federal government’s failure to pursue a contract for Pfizer last year.

“We would’ve had 40 million doses of Pfizer last year but the government didn’t pursue that deal, they banked on Astrazeneca,” she told Sky News.

“I think there was a view that we should just have AstraZeneca but other countries in the world have had a mix of vaccines.

“We’re not going to get them (Pfizer and Moderna) until October so there are a lot of state governments who are going to white-knuckle their way through ....

Members of Australia s Taiwanese community are calling for the government to push harder to get Taiwan into the World Health Organization, saying its inclusion could help stave off the next pandemic.
Only countries that are members of the United Nations may become members of the WHO - Taiwan is not.
China claims Taiwan as its own territory, and Australia does not regard the authorities in Taiwan as having the status of a national government.

The board of Australia Post failed to seek legal advice or get a written commitment from Christine Holgate that she would stand aside for an investigation into the Cartier watches saga before publicly announcing that she had agreed to do so.
