'Oh My Job!' to honor working moms

In a segment of “Oh my Job!,” the show will pay a special tribute to working moms on Mother’s Day weekend.  
Host Arnell Ignacio in the “Tip Of The Week” segment of the show will give advice on working moms and the need for them to balance their time for their family, especially their children who are in need of their guidance.  
Deputy Executive Director Patricia P. Hornilla of the National Wages and Productivity Commission will be thr resource person for “Oh Isyu” segment.
As a weekly treat, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III will answer questions asked on the show’s Facebook page through “Sagot Ka Ni Bebot.” ....

COVID-19 now a compensable work-related disease — DOLE

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 29) The Department of Labor and Employment said COVID-19 has been included in the list of occupational and work-related diseases.
This means workers who were infected by the virus could receive compensation via the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) provided they meet the conditions specified under a recent board resolution.
Considering the OSHC s (Occupational Safety and Health Center) recommendations and after deliberations with the Department of Labor and Employment and various labor and employer groups, (Labor Secretary Silvestre) Bello added that the Commission has moved that COVID-19 be considered an occupational and work-related disease, the ECC said in a statement released on Thursday. ....

Villanueva: Don t burden workers with PNP clearance to transact with DOLE
Senator Joel Villanueva voiced opposition to the Philippine National Police (PNP) proposal to require workers to first present police clearance when transacting with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), saying it was like a gate pass.
Villanueva, chair of the Senate labor committee, said the PNP proposal was not only incredulous but ran counter to President Duterte s instruction to government offices to cut red tape.
What the President has ordered and what the people want is less red tape and not more of it. What the PNP is proposing goes against this, Villanueva said. ....

P83B wages lost due to stricter lockdowns - NEDA

AROUND P83.3 billion in income may be lost during the nearly five weeks of stricter lockdown in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces, Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick T. Chua said on Monday evening.
During a televised Cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Mr. Chua said about P19.6 billion in workers’ income is sacrificed for every week of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), while P14.7 billion is lost for every week of modified ECQ (MECQ).
Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal were under a two-week ECQ from March 29 to April 11, in order to curb the spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections. Many businesses were ordered to scale down operations or close during the ECQ, while others implemented work-from-home schemes. ....
