Acadiana seniors named 2021 National Merit Scholars

Five Acadiana students were named National Merit Scholars, each receiving $2,500 and distinction few can boast.
They are among only 2,500 Merit Scholars nationwide 33 in Louisiana chosen from a talent pool of some 16,000 finalists in the 2021 scholarship program.
Four hail from Lafayette Parish: Oliver Craddock of Lafayette High; Arden Frantzen of Episcopal School of Acadiana; Rafael Hernandez of Teurlings Catholic High School; and Alaina Le of St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
A fifth, AnaLaysha Burgess-Collazo, is from Jeanerette and attends the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, a public residential high school in Natchitoches.
They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by the finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminar ....

Southeastern quarterback Cole Kelley wins FCS Stats Perform Walter Payton Award

HAMMOND, La. – The nation s best offensive player resides in Hammond, America, as Southeastern Louisiana senior quarterback Cole Kelley was named the 2020-21 Stats Perform FCS Walter Payton Award winner in an announcement from Stats Perform on Saturday. Kelley becomes the 34th recipient of the Payton Award, bestowed upon the best offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision and named for the legendary Chicago Bears running back, who played collegiately at Jackson State. Kelley is the third Payton Award recipient from the Southland Conference, joining Stephen F. Austin s Jeremy Moses in 2010 and Sam Houston s Jeremiah Briscoe in 2016 and 17. Other notable past recipients of the Heisman of the FCS include Steve McNair, Tony Romo, Brian Westbrook, Jimmy Garoppolo, Cooper Kupp and Trey Lance. United Way of Acadiana Finalists for 2021 Teacher Awards

We can never say thank you enough to our fine educators here in Acadiana. But we can sure try.
United Way of Acadiana has announced the finalists for their 2021 Teacher Awards, presented by Love Our Schools.
750 teachers were nominated for the awards, but only 12 finalists were selected in each category. Those categories include Elementary, Middle School and High School.
Educators were nominated by students, parents, fellow educators, and members of the Lafayette community during an open nomination window.
The virtual awards ceremony will be hosted live on United Way of Acadiana s Facebook page at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18.

Twelve Lafayette Parish teachers have been named finalists for the 2021 Teacher Awards, presented this year through a partnership between United Way of Acadiana, Lafayette Education Foundation and the Love Our Schools community initiative.
About 750 teachers were nominated for the awards by their students, parents, fellow educators and members of the Lafayette community during a nomination period in April.
Finalists were selected in three categories elementary school, middle school and high school and a top finalist will be chosen in each, to be announced during the virtual awards event hosted live on United Way of Acadiana s Facebook page May 18 at 6 p.m. ....
