Most Macon County school districts, except for Decatur, had not yet made firm decisions about masks prior to Pritzker s mandate, citing the fact that advice from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control has changed rapidly in recent days.
Several had board meetings scheduled in the next few days to discuss the issue prior to schools opening, which for most districts is the week of Aug. 16.

DECATUR — After listening to the 28 public comments and a lengthy discussion, the Decatur Board of Education on Tuesday rejected a $30,000 bonus for Jeff Dase, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.
No board members attended the meeting in person, instead attending virtually through Zoom. Public comments, which were placed to the end of the board s agendas early in the pandemic, were moved back to the beginning of the meeting.
This will be the agenda order going forward, so input can be heard prior to votes, said board President Beth Nolan. 
During the board s discussion, member Courtney Carson asked for an explanation of the rationale behind the bonus for Dase, and though Superintendent Paul Fregeau had given an explanation for how bonuses are calculated for principals, he did not provide one for Dase s bonus.  ....

DECATUR — Students in Decatur high schools will be able to graduate with both a diploma and an associate s degree thanks to a new agreement between Decatur Public Schools and Richland Community College.
The Prep Academy has been in the works for two years, said Superintendent Paul Fregeau. Beginning with the freshman class in August, the four-year program is available to Decatur students at no charge. Families must attend one of four online informational sessions:
11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23
6 p.m. Wednesday, March 24
11 a.m. Thursday, March 25
5 p.m. Thursday, March 25
Students must complete an application, provide required documents, a letter of recommendation from a staff member, and a five-paragraph essay at www.dps61.org/prepacademy no later than March 31. Families can also register for the information sessions at that address. Building recommendations of students will also be considered.  ....
