Change-Ups: Kalaczinski named MOA’s Educator of the Year
Lillian Kalaczinski, an associate professor for Ferris State University’s Michigan College of Optometry, has been named the Michigan Optometric Association’s 2021 Educator of the Year. Kalaczinski is a 1998 MCO graduate following three years in the pre-optometry program at Ferris. Kalaczinski served as director of vision services at a Grand Rapids-area community health center before joining the MCO faculty in 2015. Kalaczinski also is chief of primary care services at the University Eye Center, and an adviser to registered student organizations unique to the college.

An eight-person Baker College Cyber Defense Club undergraduate student team recently earned the top spot at the statewide 2021 Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), part of the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, created by the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security. The winning team will next move on to compete in the Midwest Regional CCDC on March 19-20, 2021.
Due to the ongoing challenges presented by COVID-19, this year’s competition was held remotely on Feb. 13, 2021. In order to consolidate resources, competition organizers chose to combine several state-level competitions into one event, meaning the Baker College team competed against not only three other Michigan-based schools, but also 14 other teams from schools a ....

Cyber Defense Team ranks in national security competition


The Louisiana Tech Cyber Defense Team successfully completed its first competition. The team ranked third in its bracket and 29th overall in the National Cyber League, a nationwide competition open to all United States high schools and universities.
The newly formed team earned the third highest rank among the 281 teams in the silver bracket and 29th among 957 teams that competed in the overall competition.
Teams competed in nine domains, completing more than 90 percent of challenges in open source intelligence, cryptography, password cracking, log analysis, network traffic analysis, forensics, scanning and reconnaissance, web application exploitation, enumeration and exploitation with roughly 64 percent accuracy. ....
