Texas Army National Guardsmen Michael Key competed in the 2014 Best Warrior Competition at Camp Swift in Bastrop. The 2021 edition of the Best Warrior Competition will take place at Camp Swift this week.
An international military competition featuring armed forces members from Chile, the Czech Republic, Egypt and Texas will take place in Bastrop County this week.
The 2021 edition of the Best Warrior Competition is scheduled to run from Wednesday through Sunday at the Camp Swift Training Center a U.S. military training camp built in 1942 north of Bastrop. ....

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – When U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Aaron Solis enlisted in the Michigan Air National Guard’s 110th Wing nearly 16 years ago, he never thought he’d be where he is today, serving at the 603d Air Operations Center (AOC), Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
The 603d AOC provides planning and directing initiatives, and assesses operational level command and control of integrated air, space, and cyber power in support of two combatant commands: U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM). The facility has been Solis’ workplace for the past six months.
“I joined the 110th WG at Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, Michigan in 2005, mostly as a way to pay for college,” Solis said. “I started as an A-10 Thunderbolt II weapons maintainer, but when the A-10s were reassigned to another base in 2009, I had to find something else.” ....

This engagement is part of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM)’s Office of Legal Counsel initiative known as Command Advice, Investigations, and Coordination (CAIC, pronounced “cake”). This program was developed in Spring 2020 and is presently being piloted in nine West African countries, including Liberia. Michigan and Liberia have been partners under the National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program (SPP) for more than a decade, which puts them in an ideal situat ....
