MAYVILLE National Infant Immunization Week was held April 24 through May 1 to celebrate the role vaccination plays in protecting the health of children and families.
County officials are reminding parents of the importance of staying up to date with routinely recommended vaccines, even during COVID-19.
“As warmer weather brings more opportunities for in-person, physically distanced activities, I encourage you to make sure your child is up to date on vaccines and if they’ve fallen behind, it’s essential that they catch up,” said Christine Schuyler, county public health director. “Well-child visits are necessary and important – even during this pandemic.” ....

National Infant Immunization Week Concludes


Today is the final day of National Infant Immunization Week. Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen says that getting infants vaccinated remains critically important to their well-being.
“Especially during this time, when COVID is around. We want to make sure folks are getting newborns and young children in there to get those shots. Even though COVID is out there, your doctor’s office is taking the utmost care to make sure there’s no communicable disease going on.”
There are 14 diseases that infants generally are immunized against. Shots are typically spread out in intervals throughout the first four years of life. CANTON St. Lawrence County Public Health Department is celebrating National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) April 24 – May 1.
Each year, NIIW focuses on the positive impact of vaccination on the lives of infants and
children and this year a priority is to ensure that families stay on track for routine checkups and vaccinations, even during COVID-19.
During NIIW, the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department reminds parents and guardians to schedule your children’s routine well-child visits and vaccination appointments.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend children continue to attend well-child appointments and receive recommended vaccinations during the pandemic.
