The former Pipe Major of the 9th Battalion, Queen’s Own Highlanders, Captain John MacLellan, considered one of the greatest pipers of all time, hailed it as the greatest single repository of bagpipe knowledge and information in the world’ .
But the monthly Piping Times and its sister magazine, the bi-monthly Piping Today ceased publication last year through the Covid crisis.
And now it has been confirmed that a decision has been made to stop printing the titles as they were not financially sustainable. ....

A campaign to protect decades of piping history has started on a high note.
The National Piping Centre has launched a crowd-funder to raise money to ensure the long-term future of its Piping Times and Piping Today periodicals.
Already more than £5,000 has been raised towards the £28,500 target.
The project involves the digitisation of the magazine archive, a resource that will be free to access online, and the production of a new annual publication that carries the Piping Times title. ....

THE Scottish Greens’ radical renewable jobs plan could transform Scotland into a world-leader in the battle against the climate crisis.
The party’s bold commitment to stopping exploration for fossil fuels in the North Sea is a policy that no other political party has had the guts to put forward. With 5.7 billion barrels of oil and gas in already-operating fields that would push the UK beyond the limits set out in the Paris Agreement, it’s clear that green jobs and investment in renewable energy is the only way forward.
And by promoting a jobs guarantee for those in the oil and gas industry as they move into renewables and promising to create 100,000 jobs in total through an extensive investment plan, we could see Scotland move away from fossil fuels and create a booming new industry that also helps bring emissions down. ....
