PhilHealth: Indemnification package for vaccinees with serious side effects out soon

PhilHealth Vice President for Corporate Affairs Dr. Shirley Domingo said that the guidelines of indemnification fund for vaccine recipients who suffered serious side effects have been approved.
“Yung inaayos lang po natin ay yung funding po nito kasi under the law we were supposedly provided with P500 million in trust specifically for this purpose (What we are just fixing is its funding because under the law we were supposedly provided with P500 million in trust specifically for this purpose),” Domingo said in a public briefing.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 7) The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is targeting to release this month the indemnification package for vaccine recipients who suffer serious side effects or even die after a COVID-19 vaccination, PhilHealth Vice President for Corp. Affairs Shirley Domingo said Friday.

FDA: Only small percentage of vaccinees reported side effects

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 23) – Only 2.45% of over one million individuals who received COVID-19 vaccines in the country have experienced side effects, Food and Drug Administration Director General Eric Domingo reported on Friday.
He said 497,837 have received their first dose of the CoronaVac vaccine made by Chinese drugmaker Sinovac, while 508,674 got their first shot of the vaccine developed by British-Swedish firm AstraZeneca.
Ninety-five percent or 24,330 showed minor and non-serious side effects, such as temporary high blood pressure, headaches, pain in the injection side, dizziness, rashes, or fever. The FDA also reported 344 serious adverse events.
There were also 24 deaths recorded after immunization, but Domingo said 19 were found to be coincidental or not related to the vaccine. Of the 24 fatalities, 11 contracted severe COVID-19 before the full effect of the vaccine set in, eight died of heart attack or stroke, three succumbed to ....

Arlene Brosas on Wednesday lamented the lack of implementation guidelines on indemnifying vaccine recipients who may experience serious side effects after receiving a coronavirus shot more than a month since the local inoculation drive started.
PhilHealth is currently finalizing the specific guidelines for approval of the board and then eventually the management, Dr. Mary Antonette Remonte of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation told a House hearing when Brosas asked for a copy of the indemnification guidelines.
