Sheriff Office receives perfect score

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay recently announced the Sheriffâs Office has received an error-free independent audit of its financial operations and procedures for the 18th consecutive year.
The audit is performed every year by independent auditors with no ties to the Sheriffâs Office to ensure public trust between the agency and taxpayers. The 2020 audit did not find any deficiencies in its review of all Sheriffâs Office financial transactions, Sheriffâs Office spokesman Adam Linhardt said.
The Sheriffâs Office is also a Triple Crown Award winner regarding its accreditation status. The award is given to sheriffâs offices that achieve simultaneous accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of the American Correctional Association, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. ....

CHICAGO and BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Jan. 27, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) The NCCHC Foundation and Corizon Health announced today that Corizon has made a generous gift to the Foundation, making Corizon a Gold Partner in the foundation’s Partners in Correctional Health Annual Giving Society.
The gift will establish a scholarship fund specifically for students attending historically black colleges and universities who are interested in the correctional health field and will fund their attendance at National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) conferences during 2021. The scholarships cover travel, lodging, and conference fees. ....

(Reuters) - By the time anyone at the Milwaukee County Jail noticed Shade Swayzer had given birth alone in a filthy cell, her baby was dead.

Swayzer had arrived a week earlier, on July 6, 2016, picked up after a dispute with a hotel clerk and charged with disorderly conduct and a parole violation from an old burglary conviction. She was clearly pregnant, just a few weeks from her due date, and police had her evaluated at a hospital before bringing her to jail. The fetus was deemed active and healthy, and Swayzer cleared for detention. ....

Roberts was Virginia’s longest serving sheriff and had announced plans to retire Jan. 8.
“Under Roberts’ leadership, the Hampton Sheriff’s Office demonstrated a Commitment to Excellence. In 2009 the office was awarded the coveted Nationally Accredited Triple Crown award, achieving simultaneous accreditation from the American Correctional Association, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
In June 2010, Sheriff Roberts was sworn in as the 69th president of the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA). Roberts’ swearing in as president of NSA marked the first and only African-American in the 70 year history of the organization to preside over its 18,990 members. ....
