ODESSA, Texas April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and in efforts to keep Texans safe on the road, the Texas Department of Transportation is educating people on safe driving with their #EndTheStreakTX campaign.

In 2020, the state of Texas experienced 1 in 5 crashes that were all caused by distracted driving, leaving 364 people killed and 2,200 injured.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and local law enforcement officers are increasing patrols.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Bellingham Police Department conducted emphasis patrols at the intersections of Northwest Ave & Bakerview and Meridian & Birchwood on April 9.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission reports they wrote 50 citations for cell phone violations and 2 for seatbelt violations.
They gave out 20 warnings and officers observed 23 cell phone violators they couldn’t ticket because they were busy with other drivers
