That’s not just illegal in Michigan it could prove to be deadly.
Law enforcement agencies in the state and across the country will try to make the dangers of such behavior clear this week in support of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April.
This annual campaign is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” high-visibility enforcement effort that runs from today through Monday.
According to the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, the state in 2019 had 18,096 distracted driving crashes, resulting in 70 fatalities. Nationwide in 2019, the number of fatalities linked to driver distraction was 3,142, or nearly 9% of all fatalities that year. This included 566 non-occupants pedestrians, bicyclists and others killed in crashes involving a distracted driver. ....

The Berlin Police Department is teaming with the Connecticut Department of Transportation during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationâs National Distracted Driving Awareness Month to make sure all motorists keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
Throughout April, the Berlin Police Department will be out in force looking for distracted drivers as part of the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign.
Distracted driving is a real problem. During this enforcement period, officers will be ticketing anyone who is texting or on their phone while behind the wheel. The bottom line is if you text and drive, you will pay. Â ....

In support of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, law enforcement agencies will be joining forces across the country to promote enforcement and awareness of state and local texting and distracted-driving laws.

For Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Patrol reminds drivers to keep eyes and focus on the road

Chillicothe â April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to keep their eyes and their focus on the roadway while driving.
Over the last five years, 212 people lost their lives as a result of distracted driving. During this same timeframe, distracted driving led to 66,181 crashes in Ohio. Statistics show that male drivers accounted for 55 percent of all distracted driving crashes and 64 percent of the related fatal crashes. Nearly one in three distracted drivers were between the ages of 16 and 24 years old. Because drivers are reluctant to admit to distracted driving, the actual number of distracted driving crashes, injuries and deaths are believed to be significantly higher. ....
