Fewer people giving blood during pandemic


The coronavirus pandemic has had a negative effect on blood donor rates in Estonia, data shows. The trend for donations has in any case been one of decline in recent years, however.
The National Institute for Health Development (TAI) reported a 2 percent drop on donations on year to 2020, to 29,927, or around 600 people fewer than the previous year.
The picture was exacerbated by a rise in those presenting to donate blood who were declared not fit to do so, for whatever reason, while coronavirus restrictions meant blood drives and other events, and the working of blood donor centers, were all hampered. ....

Wastewater study: Pandemic has not reduced drug use in Estonia


Wastewater studies of drug residues in Tallinn and Pärnu during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in fall 2020 indicate widespread use of both legal and illegal drugs.
The results of the Tallinn study are comparable to the results of the 2019 wastewater study, based on which it can be stated that despite the restrictions and the decrease in tourism, drug use did not decrease significantly in 2020, but rather increased for some substances.
As in 2019, the most common drugs in the Tallinn area were cannabis, amphetamine and cocaine. These were followed by methamphetamine and MDMA, the use of which had increased dramatically compared to a year earlier. ....

According to Solman, it is important that families living in understanding relationships are not disregarded with the bill, but at the same time, it would be possible to quickly help children who do not receive the necessary help and care from their parents or legal representative.
