Covid-19: How the vaccine rollout will work


The Government has signed advance purchase agreements with several pharmaceutical suppliers.
Pfizer and BioNTech will supply 1.5 million vaccines to New Zealand. This amount of the two-dose vaccine is enough to inoculate 750,000 people.
There will be 5m doses of the Janssen Pharmaceutica vaccine available, if approved. This vaccine will likely be administered via a single dose.
An agreement with Novavax was signed in December to purchase 10.72m doses of its vaccine. Another two-dose vaccine, this is enough for 5.36m people. This vaccine isn’t likely to land in New Zealand until later this year.
Lastly, the AstraZeneca vaccine is also in the line-up of potential remedies for New Zealand. Also a two-dose vaccine, the Government has purchased 7.6m doses for 3.8m people. ....

Covid-19: 'Significant' disruption to primary healthcare caused by coronavirus


A Ministry of Health spokeswoman said Covid-19 has impacted immunisation rates for children who had vaccinations due from late March onwards.
At the 8-month milestone, the ministry said there had been a 1.4 per cent decrease as at October 31 compared to the previous year across the whole population.
A 3.6 per cent decrease was reported among Māori children.
The decrease was “sharper” at the 6-month mark.
“Most of this change is likely the result of delayed immunisations during the recent outbreaks, however there has been a small increase in declined immunisations (4.4 percent at age 6 months in the last quarter, compared with 3.7 percent in the previous).” ....

The government has secured another two vaccines, enough for every New Zealander and its Pacific partners, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says.
The additional vaccines being pre-purchased are from pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Novavax.
A total of 7.6 million doses will come from AstraZeneca - enough for 3.8 million people, and 10.72 million doses from Novavax - enough for 5.36 million people. Both vaccines require two doses to be administered.
The government already has to pre-purchase agreements for 750,000 courses from Pfizer/BioNTech and 5 million from Janssen.
The cost of the new pre-purchase agreements was not disclosed, but the vaccines will be free to New Zealanders, the government said. ....
