City of Fairfax is hosting a public listening session Thursday night to collect input on its Historic District Boundaries Review project. (Michael O Connell/Patch)
FAIRFAX CITY, VA City of Fairfax residents will have an opportunity Thursday to participate in a virtual public outreach meeting to provide input on the city s Historic District Boundaries Review project.
The city kicked off a process last November to update the inventory of historic properties in the downtown area. At 7 p.m., on Thursday,
EHT Traceries, the city s consultant, will present a report on the City s National Register boundaries. Members of the public can use this GoToWebinar link to join the meeting and provide feedback. ....

Architectural walking tours come back to Downtown South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Then & Now: A Downtown South Bend Architectural Walking Tour come back to downtown South Bend with six guided tours.
Tours will be of West Washington St. area, a National Register District, starting at the American Trust Company clock at the corner of Washington and Michigan streets.
The guided tours start Friday with the remaining dates being June 4th, July 2nd, August 6th, September 3rd, and October 1
st.
Tours are $5 per person, cash only, with reservations requested for each tour.

Historic Preservation Program accepting restoration grant apps


The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) is accepting grant applications for 2021 Historic Preservation Restoration Grants through March 5.The electronic application is available here.Historic Preservation Restoration Grants are financed through proceeds from the state Real Estate Transfer Tax and federal funds received from the National Park Service. The grants provide assistance to those seeking to preserve historic structures within the state.
Generally speaking, there are three Historic Preservation Restoration Grant options including grants of up to $10,000 for properties on the Arkansas Register of Historic Place or identified as a non-contributing structure in a National Register District; grants of $10,000 or more for properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places or owned by a non-profit or municipality; and grants of between $5,000 to $9,999 for National Register listed cemeteries with proposed restoration projects. ....

Headstones found on lots where Denton houses were demolished near UNT


Three headstones found this week on adjoining properties on West Hickory Street and North State Boulevard brought a halt to development of an apartment building due to concerns bodies may have been buried there.
“The stones were just sitting there,” said Brad Abell, an employee of Circle M Metals, a Dallas company that specializes in demolitions. “I’m religious, so I was not going to disturb a gravesite.”
For several days, Circle M Metals had been razing three houses built in the mid-20th century at that corner near the University of North Texas when it was nearing the end of its work. Abell said he found a headstone on Monday at the edge of the property line next to another home and another on the fence line separating that property and the three others that had been demolished. ....
