#SOME PICTURES, is an exhibition by the award winning portrait, advertising and documentary photographer Adrian Cook. The exhibition, which opens tonight, Thursday June 10th, showcases his series of hand-printed silver gelatin prints and wet plate collodion images.
 
The exhibition runs from 10th to 26th June, at Disorder Gallery – Door 108, corner of Stanley and Bourke St., Darlinghurst, Sydney.
Come to opening night tonight Thursday 10th for Cocktails and Canapés from 6pm to 8pm.
Cook has been exhibited worldwide and has picked up awards at Cannes and D&AD amongst others. In Australia, he has been a finalist in Head On, Art & About, The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize and the National Portrait Prize. Despite his incredible work for ad-land in digital photography, he desired a deeper exploration into the photography craft, having been a film photographer prior. ....

Local photographer finalist in National Portrait Prize – The Echo

Lismore-based photographer R J Poole is one of eighty finalists from over 3,000 entries in this year’s Living Memory: National Photographic Portrait Prize.
The Portrait Prize is one of Australia’s premier art events and will be shown at the National Portrait Gallery in King Edward Terrace in Canberra from July 31 until November 7, 2021.
Mr Poole told
The Echo he was honoured to be a finalist. This is the first time he’s entered the competition. ‘There so many artists doing so many things, that being seen or heard above this background noise is extremely difficult,’ he said. ....

From Behrouz Boochani to Bernard Collaery: photographer Hoda Afshar turns her lens on whistleblowers

“The whistleblower is the modern tragic figure in our current society,” says Hoda Afshar.
The Iranian-born, Melbourne-based photographer is talking about her new series, a collection of striking, monochrome 3D portraits of contemporary Australians who have spoken out about injustice, often at their own risk.
“For me it was about the character, not the individuals, it was about their actions, and at the heart of it, there was something that reminded me of the Greek tragedies,” she tells Guardian Australia. “That’s why I chose the title Agonistes, because this is a Latin word that means personal injury and an inner struggle.” ....
