The events of Jan. 6 – when an insurrection erupted and attacked the U.S. Capitol, resulting in the death of a Capitol Police officer and others, terrorized lawmakers and a ransacked building – were so shameful and embarrassing we might be tempted in future years to downplay or minimize it. Who wants to recall a nightmare?

But that would be a huge mistake.
Rather than putting that dreadful day in our rear-view mirror, we should lean into it, make it a national day of remembrance, and show America what real patriotism looks like. ....

On December 7 of 2020, the VFW Post 6287 of Ruskin held its annual Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony at Little Harbor.
Each year on December 7, Pearl Harbor survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The attack also permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships, the USS Arizona and the USS Utah, as well as destroyed 188 aircrafts.
On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress designated December 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Every year, remembrance events are held all over the U.S. ....

According to news published by the Chinese press agency Xinhuanet on December 18, 2020, Japan government has approved the construction of two AEGIS vessels. The Aegis Combat System is an American integrated naval weapons system developed by the Missile and Surface Radar Division of RCA (Radio Corporation of America), and now produced by Lockheed Martin.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) sails through Pearl Harbor in commemoration of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer is built around the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multifunction passive electronically scanned array radar. ....

The colder weather might be rolling in, and its bringing local news with it. It was another busy week in Montgomery County.

The following message came from the library’s Facebook page:
“Good morning. We apologize but as of today we are closed to the public until further notice. Curbside services will resume and computer usage by appointments only beginning tomorrow, December 8th. More information will be posted soon. Thanks for your patience!”
A phone call to the library was unanswered by staff, but the library’s web site said it was reopened. However, it appears that the FB posting is more accurate. ....
