16% of La Crosse County residents vaccinated for CVOID-19


LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - With vaccinations given to 16 percent of people in La Crosse County, there is still a ways to go in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, but health care professionals say progress is being made and light is at the end of the tunnel.
Bridget Pfaff, Administrative Director of the Infection Control Team at Gundersen Health System, said that vaccinations provide hope and encouragement that getting back to normal is possible.
That 16 percent translates into just over 19,000 people. Pfaff explained that those numbers show they aren t seeing much vaccine hesitancy which is a good thing. However, vaccine supply is still not coming fast enough and the ethics of distribution can be difficult because deciding who is getting it now and who has to wait isn t easy. ....

CHARLESTON — West Virginia is aggressively providing the Covid-19 vaccine to all residents and staff at long-term care facilities in the state, with some facilities in this area already finished.
Gov. Jim Justice said during his pandemic briefing Friday that the state is not just planning to vaccinate the most vulnerable population, it is acting.
“We will be done in a little over two weeks (vaccinating all residents and staff) from when the first shipment (of the vaccine) arrived in West Virginia,” he said, adding that about 8,000 doses were on their way to those facilities by Friday with more coming as the doses arrive in the state. ....

Online courses address COVID-19 challenges for assisted living and senior housing communities

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with the Johns Hopkins schools of Nursing and Medicine and in partnership with the Baltimore City Health Department, is launching two free online educational courses for administrators, owners, and managers of assisted living and senior housing communities to help prepare for and respond to COVID-19. During the next phases of the pandemic, including the current surge and the impending vaccine rollout, assisted living and senior housing communities serving high-risk populations continue to be on the frontlines of COVID-19 emergency response.
The self-paced, web-based courses, made available on Coursera.org, are the latest in a series from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 Training Initiative and part of its COVID-19 Resources for Practitioners.
