The enduring success of Grey's Anatomy will never be repeated — Quartz

May 12, 2021
Few things in pop culture are the same today as they were in the mid aughts. But
Grey’s Anatomy is still airing on Thursday nights on ABC in the US, and it’s still one of the most popular series on US television. Now it’ll keep going for at least another year the last of a dying breed of broadcast TV dramas.
ABC renewed the hit medical drama for an 18th season, Variety reported. Ellen Pompeo, broadcast television’s highest paid actress, will return to portray the eponymous Dr. Meredith Grey. Shonda Rhimes, who created
Grey’s Anatomy in 2005 and continued to write for it until departing for Netflix in 2017, has said the show will likely stay on the air as long as Pompeo is game. ....

KOYO Media Project a 'light in the community,' fighting against broadcast inequity – The Orion

In downtown Atlanta, there sits a small brick building that was the home to the first black-owned radio station – WERD – in the United States in the 1950s. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders used the broadcast to spread their messages, encourage black citizens to vote and announce civil rights marches in between the performances of black jazz and blues performers during the Jim Crow era.
One would hope that by the year 2021 the legacy that WERD left in American history would only help to grow and expand the number of black-owned radio stations. Unfortunately, the data tells a much different story.   ....

Who will replace Alex Trebek as the new Jeopardy host? — Quartz

April 22, 2021
The nerdiest gig in Hollywood is also one of its most coveted. Actors, athletes, journalists, and TV personalities are lining up to be the next host of
Jeopardy! And some of them are publicly lobbying for the position.
Jeopardy!, the iconic US quiz show, announced a final round of guest hosts before it chooses a permanent replacement for Alex Trebek, the beloved frontman who hosted
Jeopardy! from 1984 until his death in November from pancreatic cancer. Trebek’s final show aired in January, and since then
Jeopardy! has brought in a revolving door of celebrity hosts, including journalist Katie Couric and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The idea is that this will function as a tryout of sorts for the permanent job, which will be decided prior to the show’s 38th season later this year. ....
