Faulty cable cuts power to Snow King, about 300 other customers

A faulty underground cable cut power to some 300 Jackson customers for a couple hours on Wednesday and stranded skiers on Snow King Mountain Resort lifts for a chilly 15 to 20 minutes.
Reports of the power outage at Snow King began to come in to the Jackson Hole Daily not long before the hillâs closing time at 6:30 p.m.
At least one skier said she was stuck on the Cougar Lift for between 15 and 20 minutes as she waited for auxiliary power to kick in to get riders to the top of the chair lift.
After unloading from the lift at dusk, skiers and snowboarders had to traverse their way down the ski slopes without nighttime lights that typically illuminate the trails. ....

Flex Power Modules has introduced the PKU4913D, the latest variant in its PKU-D series of analogue DC/DC converters in the sixteenth brick format.
The converter has been designed to deliver excellent electrical and thermal performance at an affordable cost.
Efficiency is high at typically 94.6% at Vin, 48 V at full load. Aimed primarily at telecoms applications, the converter has an input voltage range of 36 V to 75 V, which meets the requirements of the European Telecom Standard ETS 300 132-2 for normal input voltage range in -48 and -60 Vdc systems.
It provides an output of up to 8.3 A at 12 V, thus delivering 100 W, with output voltage trimming of up to 10%. Input to output isolation is 2250 V. ....

It appears AT&T has found a buyer for its beleaguered DirecTV business.
AT&T announced today that it will establish a new company with private equity firm TPG called New DirecTV that will oversee AT&T’s video business DirecTV, U-verse, and AT&T TV, the latter of which recently absorbed the company’s AT&T TV Now service. The deal, which was reported to possibly be announced this week, is said to value the new company at $16.25 billion. AT&T will own 70% of the business, while TPG will own 30% of New DirecTV. ....

EDINBURG, Va. (AP) Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. (SHEN) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $49.3 million.
The Edinburg, Virginia-based company said it had net income of 98 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, were 3 cents per share.
The telecommunications service provider in parts of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia posted revenue of $58.1 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $126.7 million, or $2.53 per share. Revenue was reported as $220.8 million.
Shenandoah Telecom expects full-year revenue in the range of $241 million to $248 million.
