(Thomson Reuters Foundation) - If you’re a woman from an ethnic minority group hoping to land a job in Germany’s tech sector, you might want to rethink your CV.
As firms use Artificial Intelligence (AI) software to filter job applications, the mention of a foreign school or maternity leave could trigger automatic rejection, according to FrauenLoop, a non-profit aiming to boost diversity in tech.
While discrimination in the labour market is nothing new, the increasing use of algorithms in hiring means many well-qualified women may be falling at the first hurdle, said FrauenLoop founder Nakeema Stefflbauer. ....

While more than 9 million Americans remain unemployed, US employers are trying virtually anything from giving hiring bonuses and education benefits to families of new employees to the use of machines to fill job openings that have soared to a record level.
Openings climbed to 9.3 million during April, the highest since 2000, underscoring the strong labor demand as the economy rapidly recovered from the pandemic, the Labor Department said in its monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report on Tuesday. ....

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The International Monetary Fund is exploring creation of a new trust that could allow its members to lend their IMF reserves to more countries, including middle-income countries vulnerable to climate change, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said on Sunday.
