ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Students at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) are celebrating Career and Technical Education Month by showcasing their culinary skills on the center’s Technical Eats Food Bus, preparing meals for teachers and community members. The skills they learn on the bus, however, will translate when students are off the bus, into any job they choose.
“We’ve learned a lot about teamwork and working together when we’re preparing recipes, which is really great for when you really do go to work, because you have that teamwork already,” Kaitlyn Bishop said. ....

Lincoln Trail College Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month

Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares individuals for high-skill, in-demand employment that furthers Illinois’ global competitiveness. Last year, about half of all Illinois community college graduates earned a CTE degree or certificate. CTE programs offer flexible scheduling, work-based learning, and stackable credentials that provide a pathway from education to employment not only for recent high school graduates, but also for returning adults, veterans, and workers wanting to update their skills. To ensure that students acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be successful, programs contextualize instruction to the application of skills in the workplace and offer access to state-of-the-art technology. Student success in CTE programming is amplified by academic support services, work-based learning opportunities, and business engagement. CTE’s reach in Illinois’ workforce continues to be expansive; currently, there are over 4,000 different CTE ....

As the year progresses and Career and Technical Education Month comes to an end, students across the Upper Thumb are focusing on their post-secondary education plans as the end of the school year and graduation creep closer.
Students at Bad Axe High School not only have opportunities available to them through the Huron Area Technical Center, but they also have many different career and education courses available to them at the high school. According to Rebecca Roggenbuck, Bad Axe High School’s college and career advisor, the school offers many different courses within the building, such as agriculture, wood shop, drafting, small engine repair, robotics, and computer science. ....

To prepare kids for the workplace, companies should partner with vo-tech and colleges | Opinion

Judy Savage, executive director of the New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools, and Aaron Fichtner, president of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges, says their goal is to expand employer partnerships, so students will graduate from a vocational-technical high school or community college with sustained work experience related to their career program, as well as industry credentials or a degree that will make them job-ready in a changing economy.

The Huron Area Technical Center has been helping prepare students for careers of college since 1986.
During the month of February, which was recently deemed Career and Technical Education Month by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, and the Michigan Department of Education, the tech center has spotlighted many students and their love for the programs provided there.
As part of its celebration of CTE month, the Huron Area Technical Center is featuring various students on its Facebook page, asking them why they enjoy their program of choice at the tech center. Many students, such as Jameson McKnight, who chose to attend the mechanical/architectural engineering and design program, enjoy the hands-on approach the tech center offers. ....
