Developer wants to give away Southwest Portland house
Interested charitable organizations must pay the cost of relocating the 1922 home.
The developer of a four-story apartment building in Southwest Portland wants to give away a nearly 100-year-old house on the property to any charitable organization that can use it.
Jordan Winkler said the house will be given away for free, but the organization must pay the relocation costs.
We re hoping there s an organization out there that can use the house, which is in good shape, Winkler said.
The house is located at 6825 S.W. 45th Ave., across the street from Gabriel Park. According to Portland Maps, the three-bedroom, one-bath, 1,746-square-foot house was built in 1922. It has a market value of $695,340. ....

Campers off Highway 8 near Dairy and McKay creeks reveal gaps in resources for a large homeless population.
With snow on the ground and near-freezing air making the mud hard around a small, tarp-fortified trailer, James Matney stepped outside on his 39th day off heroin.
He has been camping on vacant private property off Highway 8, or Tualatin Valley Highway, near where McKey Creek splits from Dairy Creek in Hillsboro since early December, he said.
In exchange for a cigarette, he allowed Amanda Terpening, a services coordinator at Project Homeless Connect, to ask him questions so he could be included in Washington County s annual point-in-time count. ....

As Tigard works to refine its vision for how the Washington Square Regional Center will look in the future, several things are clear: High-rise housing isn t in as much demand as it used to be, retail needs are changing with the economy, and while car dealerships are still going strong, the city may press them to downscale their sprawling footprints.
Those were some of the comments made as part of an update to the Washington Square Regional Center Update Project, a multi-year look at ways to refine the vision of an 827-acre site that includes not only the indoor shopping mall, which is in Tigard, but the surrounding area, including parts of Beaverton and unincorporated Washington County. ....

The Albina Vision Trust announced plans for more than 120 units of affordable housing, as well as a community playhouse.
Influential nonprofit Albina Vision Trust has announced plans to build affordable housing apartments and a community theatre in the historical heart of Portland s Black community.
Designs for the site between North Wheeler and Flint avenues calls for a seven-story complex offering 120 units of housing reserved for families making 30% to 60% of the area median income, as well as an adjacent theatre that will anchor the future of the neighborhood to its rich cultural history, according to a news release dated Jan. 20. ....
