Florida budget delivers dollars for higher ed, flood control, health

Daytona State College, nursing programs, $4 million. This includes $3.85 million for a classroom, lab and office building on the Deltona campus, and $200,000 to bolster the nursing expansion that s already been under way in Flagler County. Tom LoBasso, D president, said the money for Flagler County will help fund another faculty member and equipment. What it does is add 120 seats to the nursing program in Palm Coast, and 90 seats in Deltona, LoBasso said. The Deltona chunk fully funds a new building to house a full nursing program, stenography, machining and another vocational program that will probably be HVAC training, he said. ....

OBCC Sending Letter Of Support To VCC For Land Purchase At Plantation Oaks

Ormond Beach, FL - Ormond Beach City Commissioners (OBCC) voted unanimously at last night s (February 2) regular meeting to send a letter of support to the Volusia County Council (VCC). The support is for the County making the decision to move forward with the purchase of 76 lots that are part of the Plantation Oaks subdivision along the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail. In a memorandum from the Ormond Beach City Manager: The City of Ormond Beach strongly supports efforts to protect this special resource.Much like a state park, increasing the natural vegetative buffer along Old Dixie Highwayand preserving this unique gem of Central Florida will be something that is enjoyed andutilized by residents all throughout Volusia County and beyond. In a draft letter to the OBCC: at a meeting on January 19th, the OBCC sent a formal request to the VCC asking that the buffer along the Loop be expanded through the purchase of those 76 lots in Plantation Oaks. ONE DAYTONA hosts Wonderland
A collection of family-friendly events are being staged at ONE DAYTONA every weekend until Christmas. The Holiday Showcase is on Saturdays, Dec. 12 and 19, with the Community Showcase, featuring performances from local schools, performing studios and clubs.
Winter Village Sundays are from 3-6 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 20, and feature an open-air market for holiday gift items.
Families also can reserve a table at the Daytona hotel for a Christmas-themed breakfast or lunch, including a buffet-style meal, a keepsake ornament and a sing-along with Christmas characters.
